“Shut the book, Joseph. You‘re only to touch what I tell you to touch.” ~Brian Selznick, The Marvels

The Friday 56The Friday 56 is a weekly blog meme hosted by Freda’s Voice. Join in every Friday, the rules are simple.

Rules: *Grab a book, any book. *Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader.

*Find any sentence (or a few, just don’t spoil it) that grab you.

*Post it. *Add your (url) post here in Linky. Add the post url, not your blog url. It’s that simple.

Still kind of in a slump, have not finished any of the books from last week, but added this one to the mix, too. If you haven’t read one of Selznick’s books yet, they are very visual. The picture of the ship is the real page 56, but I skimmed ahead to the first numbered page ending with 56 with actual text to give it a bit of a quote.

“Shut the book, Joseph. You‘re only to touch what I tell you to touch.”

    1. This book is divided up strangely- the first more than half is the story told through pictures, and my two year old and I have been looking through them together, “narrating” them. (She is very optimistic, about this shipwreck, she says, “They need to fix the ship. They can fix the ship later!”)

    1. So far I have only finished Hugo Cabaret of his. The Marvels have been fun so far because my two year daughter likes going through the pictures with me, so it can be a bit of a shared family experience.

    1. I have still only finished his first one (Hugo Cabaret). They are so visual, it’s a very different kind of experience than most books (and also really fast reads!)
