Book Beginnings and Friday 56: Ghost Hunters

BookBeginnings (a la Rose City Reader)

“No one saw the girl die. It was just a little too early, a morning still too dark, first light barely warming the edge of the sky.”

First Impression: My wife has a read a few of Blum’s non-fiction books and loves them, swears they read as well as fiction. I can see what she means from this opening.

The Friday 56 is a weekly blog meme hosted by Freda’s Voice. Join in every Friday, the rules are simple.

Rules: *Grab a book, any book. *Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader.

*Find any sentence (or a few, just don’t spoil it) that grab you.

*Post it. *Add your (url) post here in Linky. Add the post url, not your blog url. It’s that simple.

“He had no idea if scientist’s were wrong in their precise definitions of life’s finite limits. But reading Wallace’s arguments, poring over Crooke’s deiberate experiments, Gurney realized that he wanted a chance to find out.”

    1. My wife loves this author. She writes about scientific movements (like the cloth-mother parenting study, or the development of crime forensics as a recognized field) in a way that makes them accessible (or so my wife swears, while reminding me that I need to read at least one of the books already!)
