Book Beginnings and Friday 56: The Book of Three

The Book of Three

by Lloyd Alexander

Book Beginnings (a la Rose City Reader)

“Taran wanted to make a sword; but Coll, charged with the practical side of his education, decided on horseshoes. So it had been horseshoes all morning long.”

First Impression: I’d say the protagonist is young, ready for adventure, and not the most practical….

The Friday 56 is a weekly blog meme hosted by Freda’s Voice. Join in every Friday, the rules are simple.

Rules: *Grab a book, any book. *Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader.

*Find any sentence (or a few, just don’t spoil it) that grab you.

*Post it. *Add your (url) post here in Linky. Add the post url, not your blog url. It’s that simple.

“Gwydion stood as a wolf at bay, his green eyes glittering, his teeth bared. The swords of the Cauldron-Born beat against his guard.”

    1. My brother and I had read this series as children (this one comes before The Black Cauldron, which you’ve probably heard of), and I picked this one up on a whim, feeling nostalgic. OMG what fun! I couldn’t put it down until I was finished!

    1. I think I couldn’t play the game because even then, I only had Macs. I’m really curious to rewatch the Disney attempt at the Black Cauldron after I’ve reread that. It seems like a dark tale for Disney to have tried, given that the Dark Lord was using the cauldron to resurrect the dead and turn them into more or less an evil zombie army.

  1. ha ha brilliant book beginning! It’s quite funny. It’s so nice to see someone with obvious ambition, then get stuck with something boring but necessary. I think we can all totally relate in one way or another 😀
Sorry for the late reply btw, it’s been hectic lately. Thank you for visiting my blog 😀
    Have a great week,
    Amy x
